Professional Mentoring Network

The Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (GPHCC) identified a need to address the slow growth of Hispanics in management and positions of leadership, and to address increased high school drop-out rates. Led by an advisory board formed by Latino professionals, the Professional Mentoring Network (PMN) was created in 2007 to connect professionals with executives and with Latino high school youth to receive and provide mentoring activities that help them grow in their careers while motivating high school students to stay in school. The program also provides executives with exposure to the workforce and leadership of the future.

The purpose of the Professional Mentoring Network (PMN) is to mentor and encourage Hispanic professionals and youth to excel while setting high standards for their future.

Connecting Professionals with Executives and Latino Youth

The PMN provides a social-professional environment where Hispanic professionals can connect with corporate executives willing to share their knowledge and career success stories that will help them continue their professional development and rise to management and executive positions. This exposure is achieved through diverse educational events, including roundtable discussions, seminars, lectures and workshops led by seasoned executives that address a path to executive leadership.

The program also provides dedicated professionals the opportunity to volunteer their time to informally mentor Latino youth, serving as positive role models. This facet of the PMN allows members to promote education and the importance of a high school diploma as a path to higher education for attaining a career or skilled job. Activities with the youth include shadowing days and seminars that address career options and tips on how to develop inter-personal skills and professional growth so that they learn how to build networking relationships.

The PMN also offers mentoring meetings in the form of lunches, outings and corporate and community events for both groups: executive to professional and professional to youth.
